PANTANAL
The
Pantanal is the world's largest wetland, also containing
the greatest concentration of tropical fauna in Latin America,
including more than 650 species of birds, 600 species of
fish, 200 species of mammals plus thousands of species of
plants!
Birds
are the most frequently seen wildlife, but the Pantanal
is also a sanctuary for giant river otters, capybaras, anacondas,
iguanas, jaguars, cougars, caimans, deer and anteaters.
80% of the Pantanal is distributed in about 140,000 km2
of Brazilian territory (states of Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso
do Sul). Its remaining portions are found in Paraguay and
Bolivia.
